We have compiled a list to help you out when it comes to planning your future bakes. There are some trends from 2019 which have made it into this list, like those pesky fault line cakes which everyone keeps admiring, and not to mention the mighty sprinkle cakes, cause the more sprinkles there are, the better the cake!

Pantone colour of the year is Classic Blue 19-4052, a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk. "It's a colour that anticipates what's going to happen next."

Metallics

A trend that never gets old, but unlike the love for rose gold last year, this year we are moving away from silvers, golds, coppers, and straying more towards gold leaf-covered tiers and adding the slightest of hints of metallic dust. We are sure we will be seeing a lot more metallic cakes coming through this year.

Sprinkles

It seems that sprinkles have skyrocketed since last year. When we think of sprinkles, we think of children's cakes, but fear not, there are a lot of adult versions where sprinkles are featured. It gives it a playful, fun sense of being. There a lot more crazy sprinkles available in the market, and no doubt some more will be released this year to keep up with this everlasting trend.

Fault Line

Towards the end of 2019, we saw the craze of fault line cakes. It is said that these new cakes will replace the famous drip cakes. The current rage is to add sprinkles within the fault line adhered to the cake using piping gel or edible glue. However, we are seeing new creations of the fault line, with the edges complemented by glamour, painted in metallic gold and using metallic pearls, gold leaf and flakes.

This year is about pushing the boat out and bringing out geometric structures, look out for hexagonal shaped tiers. Long gone are the days where the structure was all-round or square.

Foliage

Foliage has always been a big part of cake decorating, but there was a shift in time, and this year we will be seeing it making an appearance. Fern is replacing eucalyptus and gypsophila, this is particularly for wedding cakes against crisp white cakes.
